Vanilla iPhone 17 Could Feature High Refresh Rate Display

Apple might finally be bringing its ProMotion high-refresh-rate technology to the entire iPhone 17 lineup, according to a report from the Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station. For years, Apple has reserved the 120Hz refresh rate, branded as ProMotion, exclusively for its Pro models, while Android devices have been offering high-refresh-rate displays even on budget and midrange phones.

If this change materializes, the iPhone 17 could see an upgrade for its non-Pro models, potentially offering a 120Hz refresh rate or at least a 90Hz refresh rate, both of which would be a significant improvement over the current 60Hz displays found on non-Pro iPhones. This would provide smoother animations and a more responsive user experience, bringing the standard iPhones closer to the display standards set by Android competitors.

However, the iPhone SE 4 will likely remain the only new model to stick with a 60Hz display, given its position as Apple’s most affordable option. Interestingly, despite the iPhone 16 series being priced at $799, it still uses a 60Hz display, marking a noticeable contrast in display technology within Apple’s lineup.

While the iPhone 17 is still in early stages of development, Digital Chat Station’s report is consistent with earlier rumors suggesting Apple’s intention to make ProMotion available across the entire range, making this a highly anticipated update for next year.
