Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in Islamabad on a two-day official visit to Pakistan. His visit aims to strengthen ties between the two countries and boost cooperation in multiple sectors.
President Mirziyoyev’s aircraft landed at Nur Khan Air Base, where he was warmly welcomed by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Children in traditional attire presented bouquets to the visiting dignitary. Senior government officials, including Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Haroon Akhtar Khan, were also present.
During his stay, President Mirziyoyev will hold a high-level meeting with PM Shehbaz. Discussions are expected to focus on trade, investment, regional connectivity, energy, transport, and other areas of mutual interest. Several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and agreements are expected to be signed to enhance bilateral relations between Pakistan and Uzbekistan.
The Uzbek president will also meet President Zardari separately to discuss regional developments and shared concerns. Officials emphasized that the visit underscores the importance of strengthening ties with Central Asian nations.
Analysts believe this official visit will provide opportunities to expand economic collaboration, improve trade links, and promote regional stability. The engagement also highlights Pakistan’s commitment to building strong diplomatic relations with neighboring and friendly countries.
The two nations are likely to explore long-term cooperation in transport, energy, and regional connectivity projects. Both leaders are expected to reinforce their commitment to enhancing people-to-people contacts and deepening strategic partnerships.
