The Utility Stores Union has called for a nationwide protest on February 17 against the termination of daily-wage employees.
A major demonstration is set for 2 PM outside the Utility Stores Corporation (USC) headquarters in Islamabad’s Blue Area, with simultaneous protests planned at press clubs nationwide. A possible sit-in in the capital is also being considered, with union leaders vowing to continue until their demands are met.

Union representatives warned that if the dismissal orders are not revoked, further actions will be announced, potentially escalating the protests. They also threatened to shut down utility stores nationwide if their concerns remain unaddressed.
The protests follow the government’s decision to lay off around 2,500–2,600 daily-wage workers under its “right-sizing policy,” aimed at reducing non-permanent staff in state-run organizations. The move, approved by the USC Board of Directors, has sparked strong backlash, with employees demanding job security and fair treatment.
As tensions rise, the government’s response remains uncertain while affected workers continue to fight for their reinstatement.
