Both Islamabad and Washington aim to bolster security and stability on both regional and global fronts. In a joint statement issued after the Pakistan-US Counterterrorism Dialogue on May 10, the two nations underscored their partnership in addressing significant security challenges, particularly the threats posed by organizations such as Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Islamic State-Khorasan (IS-K).

During the dialogue, discussions centered on the counterterrorism landscape in the region, with a focus on areas of shared interest. They emphasized the importance of expanding collaboration in counterterrorism and capacity building, including the exchange of technical expertise, implementation of best practices, and the provision of border security infrastructure and training.
Washington highlighted its training initiatives, which have already benefitted over 300 police officers and frontline responders since the previous dialogue in March 2023.
Both nations agreed that a strategic partnership to combat IS-K, TTP, and other terrorist groups would contribute significantly to regional security and serve as a model for bilateral and regional cooperation against transnational terrorism threats. They pledged to strengthen communication channels and sustain collaborative efforts to identify and prevent violent extremism through comprehensive government strategies.
The latest engagement follows the meeting held in March last year, where Pakistan and the US reaffirmed their shared commitment to addressing the common threat of terrorism.
Against the backdrop of increased terrorist activity in KP and Balochistan following the end of the TTP’s ceasefire with the government, Pakistan witnessed a notable surge in terror incidents in 2023, resulting in a record high number of fatalities and injuries from terror attacks and counter-terror operations.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
