US Proposes 60-Day Ceasefire and Hostage Exchange Plan for Gaza Conflict

The United States has proposed a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza, coupled with the release of 28 Israeli hostages—alive and deceased—within the first week, according to a plan. In return, Israel would release 1,236 Palestinian prisoners and return the remains of 180 Palestinians. The plan is backed by President Donald Trump, Egypt, and Qatar, and includes the delivery of humanitarian aid once Hamas agrees to the ceasefire.

Israel has reportedly accepted the proposal, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu informing hostage families about the deal. Hamas, however, is still reviewing the terms and is expected to respond soon. The plan also calls for Hamas to release the remaining Israeli hostages after a permanent ceasefire is established, with Israel committing to halt all military operations in Gaza.

Previous ceasefire attempts have faltered due to deep disagreements, with Israel demanding Hamas’s complete disarmament and release of all hostages before ending the conflict. Hamas insists on Israeli troop withdrawal and a commitment to end hostilities without relinquishing its weapons. The conflict, ignited by a Hamas attack in October 2023, has resulted in heavy casualties and widespread devastation in Gaza.

Amid mounting international pressure, humanitarian groups are expanding aid distribution in Gaza despite challenges. The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, supported by the US and Israel, recently opened new aid sites, though critics argue the efforts remain insufficient to address the escalating crisis.
