US To Support Ukraine's Security In Peace Deal, Trump Tells Zelenskiy

The US has promised to support Ukraine’s security in any future peace agreement with Russia. The announcement came after a high-level meeting at the White House on Monday. President Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and several European leaders to discuss the ongoing war.

Trump stated that the US would work alongside European countries to provide security guarantees for Ukraine. He said Europe would be the first line of defense, but the US would offer significant assistance. However, the details of this support are still being finalized.

President Zelenskiy welcomed the move and called it a “major step forward.” He said the guarantees would be officially documented within the next 10 days. Zelenskiy also shared that Ukraine is ready to buy $90 billion worth of American weapons as part of its defense plan.

The meeting marked a shift in tone from a previous encounter in February, where Trump and his team had criticized Zelenskiy. This time, Trump praised the Ukrainian leader and emphasized cooperation.

Despite the progress, a peace deal remains uncertain. Russia’s Foreign Ministry said it would not allow NATO forces to enter Ukraine as part of any peacekeeping mission. This adds complexity to the ongoing talks.

Trump also revealed plans to host a trilateral summit involving himself, Zelenskiy, and Russian President Vladimir Putin. He said the US is working on arranging the meeting, which could take place in Hungary.

European leaders present at the summit urged a ceasefire before negotiations move forward. French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz both stressed the need for immediate peace efforts.

The war in Ukraine has caused significant damage, with over a million people affected. The US, along with its allies, continues to seek ways to end the conflict while supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty and security.
