A US gym teacher has set a new Guinness World Record by making 1,516 three-point shots in just one hour. Ryan Martin, a physical education teacher at Saco Middle School, aimed to hit 1,372 shots but exceeded his goal by 145, attempting 1,683 shots in total.
The record-breaking attempt took place on Monday night at the school’s basketball court. Martin credited the support of fellow teacher Nick Wilson and a lively group of students for helping him push through the physically demanding challenge.
“At around 28 minutes, I had a really bad cramp in my side,” Martin said. “Then Nick encouraged the crowd, and the noise gave me the energy to continue. It felt like perfect timing from God.”
This is the third Guinness World Record for the US gym teacher. Previously, Martin set a record by making 1,134 three-pointers in one hour from the NBA three-point line, which is three feet farther than the high school line. He also holds the record for the most free throws made in one hour, totaling 2,494.
The US gym teacher’s dedication and rigorous practice routine were key to his success. Martin reportedly spent weeks preparing for the attempt, focusing on stamina, accuracy, and speed. His efforts highlight the importance of perseverance and discipline in achieving extraordinary goals.
Students and staff at Saco Middle School cheered Martin throughout the attempt, creating a motivating environment that helped him stay focused. His achievement not only brings pride to the school but also inspires young athletes to set high standards for themselves.
Martin hopes his latest record will encourage more students to pursue sports and stay active. “Basketball has taught me patience, hard work, and consistency,” he said. “I want to share that with my students and show them that dedication can lead to amazing accomplishments.”
