The ambassador told reporters at a ceremony in Islamabad on Tuesday that the US wants a deal between Pakistan and the IMF and that the US is willing to work with Pakistan to resolve the issue.

The US ambassador further said that he anticipates that concerns between Pakistan and the global lender would be “resolved in a few days”.

Ambassador Blome expressed Washington’s willingness to assist Pakistan in dealing with the persistent threat of terrorism. He went on to say that there has been substantial development in the two countries’ diplomatic relations.

Since late last year, the IMF and Pakistan have been negotiating a stalled bailout package, with Pakistan demanding a $1.1 billion tranche to solve its growing balance of payments crisis.

The two parties have been negotiating a mutually beneficial plan to assist Pakistan in overcoming its current economic difficulties.
