Eyewitnesses reported that children were flying kites from the green belt beside the highway. Kite strings were left hanging across lanes, and several children ran into traffic to retrieve drifting kites.
Commuters passing through the area recorded videos showing children dangerously close to fast-moving vehicles. These clips quickly went viral on social media, raising public concern about road safety and the lack of enforcement.
Kite flying is strictly prohibited in Islamabad due to the hazards it poses. The Islamabad Capital Territory administration has banned the manufacturing, sale, and flying of kites across the city.
The restrictions were introduced after multiple incidents caused by hazardous kite strings. Chemical-coated, metal, and nylon strings have previously led to serious injuries and fatalities.
