A senior UN expert has warned that Gaza’s recovery may take generations, highlighting the severe devastation caused by months of conflict. The warning comes as humanitarian agencies continue to struggle with limited access, damaged infrastructure, and massive displacement.
According to the expert, entire neighborhoods in Gaza have been reduced to rubble, while hospitals, schools, and water facilities remain non-functional. The scale of destruction, he said, is far beyond what can be repaired in a few years — calling it one of the worst humanitarian crises in recent history.
He emphasized that rebuilding Gaza will require long-term commitment, stability, and international support. “Even if the fighting stops today, it would take decades to rebuild lives, homes, and hope,” he said, stressing that children and future generations will carry the scars of this war.
The UN official also urged the global community to ensure consistent humanitarian aid and protection for civilians. He noted that thousands of families remain without shelter, food, or medical care, while the blockade has made relief operations extremely difficult.
Analysts believe Gaza’s economic and social recovery depends not only on reconstruction but also on a sustainable peace agreement that ensures the conflict does not repeat. Without political resolution, the suffering of civilians is likely to continue.
