Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced on Sunday that new sanctions have been imposed on several foreign companies involved in supplying parts used in Russian drones and missiles targeting Ukraine.
In a statement shared on X, Zelenskiy said Russia’s weapons production relies heavily on essential foreign components that are still being obtained by bypassing existing sanctions. He emphasized that these suppliers, along with missile and drone manufacturers, are now being directly targeted. “We are introducing new sanctions against these companies,” he said, confirming that he had signed the necessary orders.
Two official decrees released by the Ukrainian presidency revealed that the sanctions affect multiple firms, including several based in China, as well as businesses from former Soviet states, the United Arab Emirates, and Panama.
Although diplomatic efforts are ongoing to end the four-year conflict, Russia has recently intensified its aerial attacks on Ukraine. The number and scale of missile and drone strikes have risen significantly, with a particular focus on energy infrastructure and logistics networks.
According to Zelenskiy, over the past week alone, Russia launched more than 2,000 attack drones, 1,200 guided bombs, and 116 missiles at Ukrainian cities and towns. These assaults have severely damaged power plants and substations, causing widespread blackouts and leaving many areas without electricity or heating. In the capital Kyiv, outages have reportedly lasted up to 20 hours at a time.
Additionally, Zelenskiy stated that further sanctions have been placed on parts of Russia’s financial system, including entities connected to cryptocurrency markets and mining operations that help fund the war effort.
