Ukraine issues new air alerts a day after a massive Russian attack

On Tuesday, Ukrainian authorities issued air raid alerts across much of the country after Kyiv’s air force confirmed the departure of Russian bombers from western Russia. The Ukrainian air force reported that several Tu-95MS bombers had taken off from Engels airfield, estimating that missiles could reach Ukrainian airspace around 4:00 am (0100 GMT).

UN nuclear watchdog chief Rafael Grossi is scheduled to visit Russia’s Kursk nuclear plant on Tuesday to independently assess the situation following Ukraine’s unprecedented cross-border offensive into the Russian region.

US President Joe Biden and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed the Russia-Ukraine war on Monday, following Modi’s visit to Ukraine. Poland reported that a drone likely entered its airspace early Monday morning amid Russian bombardment of Ukraine. Authorities believe the drone may have landed on Polish territory, and searches are ongoing.

The United States expressed outrage over Russia’s assault on Ukraine’s power grid and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Kyiv. Kyiv has urged its allies to permit long-range strikes to help “accelerate the end of Russian terror” following a major Russian strike on Ukraine on Monday.
