A recent report by the Center for Migration Control (CMC) reveals a significant rise in crime convictions involving foreign nationals in the UK. In 2024, Indian citizens topped the list for sexual offense convictions among foreign nationals. The number of Indian nationals convicted of such crimes increased by 257% over the past three years, from 28 cases in 2021 to 100 in 2024.
The report also shows other nationalities with high conviction rates. Afghans had 43 convictions, Nigerians 40, Sudanese 37, Bangladeshis 34, Portuguese 33, and Iranians 30. Romanians and Poles were second and third on the list with 92 and 83 convictions, respectively. Pakistani nationals ranked fourth with 56 convictions in 2024.
Overall, foreign nationals accounted for 14.1% of sexual offense convictions in the UK in 2024. These crimes include rape and other serious offenses. The Ministry of Justice data, based on Police National Computer records, confirms this trend.
The increase in foreign nationals’ convictions outpaced the rise among UK nationals. From 2021 to 2024, sexual offense convictions for UK citizens rose by 39.3%, while the increase for foreigners was much higher. This pattern also appeared in other crimes, such as theft and robbery. Theft convictions among foreign nationals rose by 77.9%, compared to 55.8% for UK citizens. Robbery convictions increased by 18.9% for foreigners but only 2.8% for British nationals.
These findings come amid record-high migration levels in the UK. In 2023, net migration reached 906,000, with many migrants arriving via Channel crossings. Nearly 28,000 migrants have crossed by boat so far in 2024, marking a new high.
The report highlights growing concerns about crime trends linked to migration in the UK. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.
