The United Kingdom has officially launched the eVisa system for Pakistani students and skilled workers, set to take effect in July 2025. This new system replaces traditional visa stickers with a digital visa, simplifying the immigration process. Pakistani applicants will now receive an eVisa, which serves as an online record of their immigration status and conditions. This eVisa can be accessed through the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) online account.
Jane Marriott, the British High Commissioner to Pakistan, welcomed the change, stating that the eVisa system will make it easier for students and workers to prove their visa status and identity. She emphasized that applicants can retain their passports, eliminating the need to submit them for visa processing. This transition to digital documentation is part of the UK government’s broader effort to modernize its immigration system, making it more secure and efficient.
The eVisa system will be available for several visa categories, including student visas, skilled worker visas, global talent visas, and international sportsperson visas. Applicants will need to link their UKVI account with their passport to manage their immigration status digitally. The new system will also enable visa holders to share their immigration status with third parties such as employers, universities, or landlords in the UK.
While the eVisa system will apply to most applicants, those applying as dependents or under certain categories, such as general visitors, will still receive a physical visa sticker. However, the UK government plans to expand the eVisa system to all visa categories in the future.
This update is expected to benefit thousands of Pakistanis applying for education and employment opportunities in the UK, making the process faster, more secure, and more streamlined.
