The British Council has announced fully funded scholarships for women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) to study in the United Kingdom for the 2026–27 academic year.
The Women in STEM Scholarship Program, offered for the sixth consecutive year under the Going Global Partnerships initiative, aims to increase opportunities for women in STEM disciplines and encourage greater female leadership in science and innovation.
The scholarships support one-year master’s degree programs at leading universities and research institutions across the UK. So far, the initiative has partnered with 43 universities and awarded around 500 scholarships to students worldwide.
For the 2026–27 intake, each scholarship is valued at at least £40,000. The funding covers full tuition fees, living expenses, travel costs, visa fees, health coverage, and English language support for selected candidates.
In total, 90 scholarships will be offered globally across 30 countries. Of these, 25 scholarships are specifically allocated to applicants from South Asia through partnerships with five UK universities.
James Hampson said the program reflects the organization’s commitment to supporting talented Pakistani women by providing access to world-class education and empowering them to become future leaders in STEM fields.
Meanwhile, Jen Bardsley said the initiative aims to remove barriers that women face in pursuing STEM careers and promote greater diversity in global scientific research and innovation.
Applications for the Women in STEM scholarships are open until late April 2026. Interested candidates can apply through participating universities and the official British Council scholarship portal.
