After Sri Lanka’s appeal, the Emirates Cricket Board has also urged Pakistan to reconsider its decision not to play the February 15 match against India. According to reports, the Emirates board reached out to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and formally requested a review of the decision, emphasizing that any move should prioritize the broader interests of the sport and its stakeholders.
Earlier, Sri Lanka Cricket had made a similar request, asking Pakistan to withdraw its planned boycott of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 fixture against India. Sri Lankan officials reportedly sent a formal letter to the PCB, warning that canceling the high-profile clash in Colombo could result in substantial financial setbacks. The board noted that the match was expected to generate significant revenue through ticket sales, sponsorships, and tourism.
Sri Lanka Cricket explained that all arrangements, including ticketing and hosting plans, had already been completed. However, news of Pakistan’s potential non-participation has reportedly impacted the tourism sector, with fans canceling hotel reservations and travel plans. Officials stressed that the financial and economic consequences could be severe, affecting not just cricket operations but also local businesses.
In its communication, Sri Lanka Cricket also highlighted the longstanding relationship between the two boards and reminded the PCB of the support it had extended during challenging times. The board urged Pakistan to consider these ties, along with the wider interests of international cricket, before making a final decision.
Meanwhile, the Government of Pakistan has instructed the national men’s team not to play against India in the tournament. The International Cricket Council (ICC) is continuing diplomatic efforts to resolve the situation. ICC Deputy Chairman Imran Khawaja recently met with PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, along with Bangladesh Cricket Board President Aminul Islam, in an attempt to persuade Pakistan to participate in the much-anticipated match.
