UAE Imposes One Million Dirhams Fine For Electronic Fraud

The UAE has issued strict warnings against electronic fraud, emphasizing severe penalties for cybercrime offenders. The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) confirmed that violators could face fines up to 1 million Dirhams and at least one year in prison. The action comes under Federal Decree-Law No. 34 of 2021, aimed at countering rumors and cybercrimes.

Article 40 of the law specifies that anyone found guilty of electronic fraud may face imprisonment of no less than one year, a fine ranging from 250,000 AED to 1 million AED, or one of these penalties alone. Authorities highlighted that these rules apply to all individuals involved in online scams, digital identity theft, or fraudulent online activities.

The UAE law targets activities where people illegally obtain money, property, or official documents through deception. This includes impersonating others, using fake names, creating misleading digital accounts, or manipulating information networks and electronic systems. The ADJD stated that such crimes pose a serious threat to residents, businesses, and the digital economy of the UAE.

Officials urged the public to remain vigilant when conducting online transactions. They encouraged residents to report any suspicious activity immediately through official channels. Authorities said that raising public awareness is crucial to reducing electronic fraud and ensuring safety in online operations.

The UAE government has also stressed the importance of compliance with cybersecurity regulations. The measures are part of broader efforts to strengthen trust in online services and protect citizens from financial and personal harm.

Legal experts in the UAE noted that the strict penalties for electronic fraud reflect the seriousness of cybercrime in the digital era. Authorities will continue monitoring online platforms closely to ensure offenders are held accountable.

The UAE’s crackdown on cybercrime demonstrates the country’s commitment to safeguarding its residents and maintaining the integrity of digital transactions.
