UAE Bans Illegal Crypto Mining, Imposes Heavy Fines

Abu Dhabi has banned cryptocurrency mining on agricultural land, imposing fines of Dh100,000 on violators, with repeat offenses carrying doubled penalties. The move came after inspections revealed several farms engaged in mining.

The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (Adafsa) confirmed that all services and support for non-compliant farms will be immediately suspended. In 2024, fines for similar violations were capped at Dh10,000, but the 2025 penalty marks a 900% increase.

The prohibition applies to both farm owners and tenants, as crypto mining is deemed harmful to agriculture, food security, and biosecurity standards. Farms caught mining will face power cuts, seizure of mining equipment, and suspension of government support programmes. Offenders may also face legal proceedings under existing laws.

Adafsa urged farm owners and workers in crop and livestock sectors to strictly adhere to approved agricultural uses and avoid activities that threaten sustainability.
