Two Pakistani cricket stars and an explosive West Indies wicketkeeper have been nominated for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month Award for August 2023.
Babar Azam, a two-time ICC Men’s Player of the Month, has been nominated for the August 2023 award. The top-ranked batter in the ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings continued his excellent form with two fifties and a century. Despite a failure in the first ODI against Afghanistan, he bounced back with two consecutive fifties in the second ODI, including a vital 118-run partnership with Imam-ul-Haq. Babar also contributed with a crucial 60 in another match, helping Pakistan secure a series win against Afghanistan. His remarkable form extended to the Asia Cup, where he scored a stunning 151 against Nepal, becoming the fastest player to reach 19 ODI centuries.
Pakistan’s star all-rounder, Shadab Khan, earned a Player of the Month nomination for his contributions in August. He made valuable contributions with both bat and ball against Afghanistan, helping Pakistan to a series sweep. Shadab’s batting performances, including a Player of the Match-winning knock of 48, played a pivotal role in Pakistan’s victories. He also excelled with the ball, taking crucial wickets in the series. In the Asia Cup, Shadab showcased his spin and guile, recording impressive figures of 4/27 against Nepal.
Nicholas Pooran was a standout player for West Indies in August, particularly during their T20I series against India. He played a crucial role in West Indies’ victory in the first T20I, scoring a measured 41. In the second T20I, Pooran’s explosive 67 helped West Indies secure a win, and he continued to contribute with 47 in the final match as West Indies won the series. Despite some setbacks in later matches, Pooran was named Player of the Series for his outstanding performances, finishing as the highest run-scorer with 176 runs.
These three talented cricketers have earned their nominations for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month Award for their exceptional performances in August 2023.
