Two fresh polio cases have been detected in Lakki Marwat and North Waziristan, raising Pakistan’s total to 26 this year, the National EOC confirmed.
Polio, an incurable disease that can cause permanent disability, poses a serious threat to children under five. Authorities stressed the importance of ensuring every child receives polio drops during ongoing campaigns.
The National EOC said a high-quality campaign is underway in South Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to curb the virus. Polio drives also began today in Bajaur and Upper Dir, aiming to protect children from the disease.
This week, over 1.685 million children are expected to be administered polio drops across the region. Parents have been urged to cooperate with health teams and make sure all children under five are vaccinated in every round, as repeated doses are essential to build lifelong immunity against the virus.
