Two New Pakistani Airlines to Expand Domestic Flights and Cargo

The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has finalized preparations to launch two new Pakistani airlines soon. One airline will serve passengers, while the other will focus on cargo operations.

The passenger airline, Karachi Air, has completed plans to lease aircraft and is expected to begin operations in May or June. Karachi Air will operate domestic routes connecting Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Sukkur, Multan, Quetta, and Peshawar. After one year, the airline plans to expand into international routes.

At the same time, logistics company TCS is introducing a Boeing 747-400 aircraft. This plane will be used exclusively for cargo services. K2 Airline, which already operates cargo flights, is also expanding its fleet with another Boeing 747-400. These additions are expected to boost air cargo growth in Pakistan.

Until now, foreign airlines have largely dominated the air cargo sector. The entry of two new Pakistani airlines will make local companies key players in the market. Officials say this development will increase competition and improve services for businesses and travelers.

Currently, between 90,000 and 100,000 passengers travel daily from Pakistan. Travelers rely on Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), Fly Jinnah, and foreign carriers from the UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, and other countries. Karachi Air’s launch is expected to provide passengers with more domestic travel options.

A spokesperson for the Pakistan Airports Authority said all necessary facilities are being provided to support the launch of the new airlines. Authorities are confident that these steps will strengthen Pakistan’s aviation sector and contribute to economic growth.
