Two holidays have been announced for Ashura 2024 in Pakistan

The federal government of Pakistan has announced a two-day public holiday on Muharram 9 and 10, which will be observed across the country on July 16 and 17, 2024, respectively. This decision was made following the sighting of the Muharram moon, with Muharram 1 falling on Monday, July 8. Ashura, the 10th day of Muharram, will be observed on Wednesday, July 17.

During these days, all offices, markets, banks, and educational institutions will remain closed, while emergency services will remain operational. The observance of Ashura holds significant religious importance, marked by special processions and gatherings to honor Hazrat Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), who was martyred in Karbala.
