Turkey is prepared to provide military support to Syria’s new Islamist-led government, established by rebels who overthrew Bashar al-Assad, should the new administration request it, according to Turkish Defence Minister Yasar Guler. Speaking to journalists, Guler emphasized the importance of giving the new leadership a chance and stated that Turkey would be ready to offer necessary assistance if asked.

The new leadership, formed by the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) rebel alliance, is rooted in Al-Qaeda’s Syria branch, which many Western countries consider a “terrorist” organization. However, HTS has sought to moderate its stance and has promised to uphold the rights of all Syrians, maintain the rule of law, and respect institutional frameworks.
Guler’s remarks suggest Turkey’s willingness to engage with the new Syrian leadership, though the minister also indicated that the actions of the new government should be observed before fully committing support.
