TTP Terrorists Killed in Karachi CTD Operation at Manghopir

KARACHI – Three high-profile militants of the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were killed in an early morning police operation in Karachi’s Manghopir area. The operation was led by the city’s Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) after receiving intelligence reports.

According to CTD officials, the shootout took place after police surrounded a house where the militants were hiding. The suspects opened fire, prompting an intense exchange. All three were killed on the spot.

CTD Deputy Superintendent of Police Raja Umar Khattab confirmed the identities of two suspects, Zafran and Qudratullah. Zafran was a wanted terrorist with a bounty of Rs 20 million. The third suspect remains unidentified.

Officials also stated that one of the deceased was a trained suicide bomber. He was suspected to be linked to a previous attack targeting Chinese nationals in Karachi, a case that had heightened fears of terror in Karachi in recent months.

Explosives, suicide vests, hand grenades, and a list of intended targets were recovered from the site. The Bomb Disposal Squad later cleared the house. Investigations are now underway to identify the property owner and any possible local facilitators.

The successful operation is seen as a major blow to the TTP’s Karachi network. The group has been responsible for past incidents such as the TTP Karachi attack and the TTP attack on Karachi police office.

Meanwhile, Pakistan continues to face a surge in militant activity. A recent report by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies noted 85 attacks in May 2025, a 5% increase from April. Security personnel deaths rose by 73%, and civilian injuries increased sharply as well.

Despite the uptick in violence, security forces remain active. In May alone, at least 59 militants were killed in different operations. The provinces of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remain the most affected by militant activity.

The latest incident, where TTP terrorists were killed in Karachi, is part of the country’s broader efforts to dismantle militant networks operating in urban areas.

The terrorist involved in the Hangu DPO attack has also been neutralized, read the full report.
