Tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan have reached a critical level, with the security situation rapidly deteriorating as both sides exchange accusations of deadly cross-border attacks. The escalating conflict has entered a new and dangerous phase, fueled by statements from banned militant organizations calling for increased violence.
Reports indicate that internationally designated terror groups, including Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, and Ittehad-ul-Mujahideen, have allegedly instructed their fighters to intensify operations within Pakistan. Messages circulating on social media, attributed to these outfits, reference the ongoing border clashes and encourage militants to escalate their activities. The statements also express support for Afghanistan, raising concerns among analysts about a possible coordinated surge in violence. So far, neither Islamabad nor Kabul has formally addressed these threatening messages.
Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar shared details of what he described as a large-scale military response targeting Afghan Taliban positions. According to official claims, dozens of checkpoints were destroyed or captured, armored vehicles and tanks were eliminated, and multiple locations inside Afghanistan were struck in air operations. Authorities further asserted that hundreds of Taliban personnel were killed or injured. However, these figures have not been independently confirmed.
In response, a spokesperson for the Afghan Taliban’s 203rd Mansoori Corps stated that retaliatory cross-border operations resumed, with clashes reported in areas including Khost and Tank. Intense firing was also reported near the strategically significant Torkham border crossing, where mortar shells allegedly struck multiple sites.
With militant factions urging further attacks, Pakistan claiming extensive strikes, and the Taliban announcing renewed retaliation, the conflict shows signs of deepening instability in the region.
