Trump Signals Progress on Gaza Ceasefire, Cites Positive Response from Hamas

United States President Donald Trump has indicated potential progress in efforts to broker a Gaza ceasefire, saying it was encouraging that Hamas responded in a “positive spirit” to the US-backed proposal. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Friday, Trump expressed optimism that a deal could be reached as early as next week, although he noted he had yet to receive a full briefing on the latest developments.

In a related development, Trump also said he plans to discuss Iran-related concerns with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, particularly in light of Iran’s nuclear capabilities. He asserted that Iran’s nuclear programme had been dismantled but warned that Tehran could restart its nuclear activities.

Hamas has meanwhile confirmed its readiness to immediately engage in negotiations for a Gaza ceasefire. The group’s statement aligns with ongoing diplomatic efforts led by the United States to de-escalate the conflict and secure the release of hostages.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt credited President Trump’s leadership for the arrival of humanitarian aid in Gaza and reiterated the administration’s commitment to ending the conflict. “We are working tirelessly to end the war in Gaza and recover all the hostages,” she said.

The Trump administration is reportedly maintaining close coordination with Israeli leadership on peace efforts and humanitarian relief. Officials say the President remains directly engaged and focused on achieving a swift and peaceful resolution.
