Trump Says US Has Lost India and Russia to China After SCO Summit

U.S. President Donald Trump has stirred debate with fresh remarks on shifting global alliances, claiming that Washington has “lost” both India and Russia to China.

His comments followed the recent Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin, where images of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin sharing a laugh with Chinese President Xi Jinping fueled speculation about a strengthening anti-West axis.

“Looks like we’ve lost India and Russia to deepest, darkest China. May they have a long and prosperous future together!” Trump posted, sparking heated discussion in Washington and international circles.

The statement comes amid tensions in U.S.-India relations. Trump recently imposed a 50% tariff on Indian imports, citing New Delhi’s continued oil trade with Moscow. India called the move “unfair,” warning it could harm economic relations.

Responding cautiously, Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal avoided direct comment on Trump’s remarks but underlined that U.S.-India ties remain vital, rooted in shared democratic values, common interests, and strong people-to-people connections. He added that the partnership has weathered challenges before and will continue to progress on the basis of mutual respect and cooperation
