U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed he sent a letter to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, proposing negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program.
In an interview with an American news outlet, Trump revealed he sent the letter on Wednesday, aiming to discuss a nuclear deal. When asked if it was directly addressed to Khamenei, he responded, “Yes.”

Trump highlighted two possible approaches to Iran: “One is war, and the other is negotiations.” He stated his preference for diplomacy, emphasizing, “I don’t want to harm Iran—they are great people.”
Regarding the letter, Trump expressed optimism, saying he hoped Iran would opt for talks, as it would be in their best interest.
The letter comes as Western nations raise concerns over Iran’s potential to develop nuclear weapons.
However, Iran’s mission in New York stated they had not received the letter as of Friday. The Iranian Foreign Ministry did not immediately respond, while Iran’s state news agency dismissed Trump’s outreach as a “repeated spectacle.”
Trump previously withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran in 2018, a move the Biden administration later sought to reverse.
