Trump Says He’s Open to Considering Lifting Iran Sanctions

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has said he is open to the idea of reconsidering or even lifting sanctions on Iran — but only if Tehran agrees to a stronger and more comprehensive deal. His comments have sparked new debate over how a potential Trump return to the White House could reshape U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East.

Speaking to reporters, Trump said he was not against negotiations with Iran but emphasized that any talks must lead to “a better and tougher deal” than the one reached under President Obama in 2015. He added that his administration’s “maximum pressure” campaign had weakened Iran’s economy but also opened doors for new diplomatic leverage.

Trump hinted that if Iran shows a willingness to curb its nuclear ambitions and regional activities, the U.S. could explore options for easing sanctions. However, he stressed that “no relief” would come without significant concessions from Tehran.

Experts say Trump’s remarks suggest a potential shift in tone, balancing between his tough stance and openness to diplomacy. Analysts believe this statement could also be aimed at reassuring U.S. allies in the Gulf and Israel that Washington would maintain a strong regional position.

Iran has not yet officially responded to Trump’s latest comments, but state media has previously accused Washington of using sanctions as a political weapon. Tehran continues to demand the full lifting of economic restrictions before any new deal can be discussed.

The development comes as tensions remain high over Iran’s nuclear program and its regional influence, with both countries watching each other’s next move closely.
