US President Donald Trump has hinted that Washington could play a role in reducing the growing tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Speaking to reporters while returning from his Middle East visit, Trump said he was aware of the escalating situation between the two neighbouring countries and expressed willingness to help bring stability.

Trump said he had been informed about clashes along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. He noted that both sides were suffering from rising hostilities and called the conflict “unnecessary.” He added that he would look into ways the United States could help lower tensions and promote dialogue once he returned to Washington.

The president also mentioned that his administration had previously helped mediate between other regional rivals. Referring to earlier diplomatic efforts in South Asia, Trump claimed he had “experience in solving wars” and believed his approach could again help bring peace.

Recent reports suggest heavy cross-border firing and military activity along the Durand Line. Pakistan has accused armed groups operating from Afghan territory of targeting its security forces. In response, Afghanistan has blamed Pakistan for conducting strikes inside its territory. Both governments have urged restraint but remain firm on their respective positions.

The United States has long maintained ties with both Islamabad and Kabul. Observers believe that Washington’s renewed engagement could help reduce misunderstandings and promote cooperation on border security. However, analysts also warn that deep-rooted mistrust between the two sides will not be easy to resolve.

Trump’s statement comes at a sensitive time when the region’s stability is once again under threat. As tensions rise, the possibility of US mediation may provide a diplomatic opening to prevent further escalation between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
