US President Donald Trump has proposed a new immigration strategy that offers cash stipends and plane tickets to undocumented immigrants who voluntarily leave the country. The plan, a sharp departure from his previously uncompromising stance on immigration, was revealed during an interview with Fox Noticias and has already sparked debate across political lines.
Under the proposal, immigrants who “self-deport” would receive financial assistance and travel support to return to their home countries. Trump emphasized that those deemed “good individuals” could be eligible for legal reentry in the future. The program, he said, aims to reduce the undocumented population without mass removals, placing voluntary exits at the center of immigration enforcement.

“We’re going to give them some money and a plane ticket,” Trump stated, noting that priority would be given to removing individuals with criminal records. “We are getting the murderers out,” he added, underlining the continued focus on public safety.
The plan also takes into account ongoing labor shortages in key sectors like agriculture and hospitality. Trump suggested that the new approach could help employers legally rehire previously undocumented workers, calling the idea “soothing for farmers” who have struggled with worker shortages.
While the full details of the program remain under wraps, immigration advocates have raised concerns about the ethical implications of paying people to leave. Nonetheless, Trump’s administration has framed it as a balanced solution—addressing illegal immigration while offering a pathway to lawful return for those who meet certain standards.
