Former U.S. President TRUMP has again claimed credit for stopping a possible war between India and Pakistan. He said both nations were close to a dangerous conflict that could have turned nuclear.
Speaking at a recent political event, TRUMP said, “They shot down five planes in the last attack. It went back and forth. I called them and said, no more trade if you do this.”
According to TRUMP, his direct warning helped stop the fighting. He said both India and Pakistan are strong nuclear powers. He believes his intervention stopped the situation from getting worse.
This is not the first time TRUMP has made such a claim. In May, he told lawmakers during a dinner at the White House that five fighter jets were shot down in the conflict. He did not say which country lost the aircraft.
Pakistan claims it downed six Indian aircraft during the brief air clash. These included three Rafale jets, one MiG-29, one Sukhoi Su-30, and an Israeli-made drone. Pakistani officials said all aircraft were intercepted before entering their airspace.
India, however, denies losing any Rafale or MiG-29 jets. It acknowledged minor setbacks on the first day of the conflict but gave no details. India also said it had downed some Pakistani aircraft, a claim Pakistan denies.
The tensions started after a deadly April attack in Indian-administered Kashmir. India blamed Pakistan-based groups, while Islamabad denied the accusation and demanded a neutral investigation.
On May 7, Indian jets bombed targets inside Pakistan. In response, Pakistan launched its own strikes and artillery attacks along the border. The fighting led to casualties on both sides before a ceasefire was reached.
India has rejected TRUMP’s version of events. It continues to oppose third-party involvement in its issues with Pakistan.
