They made this difficult decision after numerous meaningful conversations and have already signed a legal separation agreement, as confirmed in statements posted on Instagram.
Trudeau, a 51-year-old descendant of a prominent Canadian political family, took office as Prime Minister in 2015. Meanwhile, Sophie Trudeau, a former model and TV host, brought her own star power to the Prime Minister’s office.

They have three children together, and despite the separation, they emphasized their commitment to remaining a close family with love and respect for each other. The couple’s children will primarily live with Trudeau at Rideau Cottage in Ottawa for stability, while Sophie has moved to a separate home in Ottawa but will visit the family during certain times.
Both Trudeau and his wife have requested privacy during this personal time. This separation marks the second time a Canadian Prime Minister has experienced such a situation while in office, with Trudeau’s parents, Pierre and Margaret Trudeau, having separated in 1977.
Justin Trudeau’s political career has faced challenges, but recent events indicate that he may continue to remain in the political arena, contrary to previous speculations.
