Tropical Storm Helene Kills Six, Leaves Millions Powerless in US States

Tropical Storm Helene, previously a Category 4 hurricane, has caused at least six deaths and left millions without power as it moved through Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina, according to local reports.

The Florida Division of Emergency Management confirmed Helene made landfall in the Big Bend area with winds reaching 130-156 mph (209-251 km/h). The National Hurricane Center warned of “catastrophic winds” and urged residents to remain sheltered.

ABC7 Chicago reported that over three million people in the southeast, including more than one million in Florida, were without power. The National Ocean Service also noted severe flooding at Cedar Key due to elevated water levels.

As Helene moves north, authorities continue to warn residents of life-threatening conditions and urge extreme caution in affected regions.
