Tribunal Reverses Rs 40 Million Fine Imposed On Al Ghazi Tractors

The Tribunal Reverses a major penalty imposed on Al-Ghazi Tractors Limited (AGTL) by the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP), offering significant relief to the company. The Competition Appellate Tribunal has overturned the CCP’s earlier decision, which had fined AGTL Rs. 40 million for alleged violations of competition laws.

In a statement issued to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Thursday, Al-Ghazi Tractors confirmed that the tribunal had set aside the CCP’s order and penalty. The company said that the decision nullifies both the fine and the findings made against it earlier this year.

The CCP had imposed the Rs. 40 million fine in May 2025, accusing Al-Ghazi Tractors of making a misleading claim about fuel efficiency in its advertisements. The regulator argued that the marketing message could mislead consumers and distort market competition.

However, the Tribunal Reverses this decision after a detailed review, concluding that the penalty was not justified based on the available evidence. The ruling means AGTL is no longer required to pay the fine or face any legal consequences related to the CCP’s findings.

Al-Ghazi Tractors welcomed the verdict, calling it a fair outcome that restores confidence in the judicial process. The company maintained that its advertising practices were transparent and in compliance with legal standards.

The case highlights how regulatory decisions can be challenged and overturned when due process is followed. Experts believe the Tribunal Reverses ruling may influence future competition law cases involving advertising claims and industry practices.

The CCP has yet to issue a statement on whether it will appeal or review the tribunal’s judgment. Meanwhile, Al-Ghazi Tractors, one of Pakistan’s largest agricultural machinery manufacturers, continues its operations without the burden of the earlier fine.
