Transporters Declare Nationwide Wheel-Jam Protest Over New Traffic Rules

Transporters in Pakistan have announced a nationwide wheel-jam strike to protest the Punjab government’s new traffic fines under the Traffic Ordinance 2025. The strike will begin in Punjab on 8 December and expand nationwide from 10 December if authorities do not meet their demands.

The All Pakistan Goods Transport Association (APGTA) stated the strike will proceed unless the government accepts their 25-point list of demands. APGTA President Nabeel Tariq made the announcement during a press briefing in Lahore.

Tariq criticized the government for implementing the Traffic Ordinance 2025 without consulting transporters. He added that nearly 80% of transport operations in the province have been disrupted due to the heavy fines introduced under the new rules.

Transporters claim the revised penalties place a serious financial burden on drivers and vehicle owners. They warned that essential goods could be delayed nationwide if the issue remains unresolved.

Besides protesting traffic fines, transporters are also demanding land for new truck stands across Punjab. They are calling for stronger measures against rising highway robberies, highlighting that security risks make operations difficult under the current circumstances.

Representatives emphasized that the transport sector is under pressure from targeted challans and stricter penalties. They said prolonged inaction could further disrupt goods movement and daily commuting for the public.

Transporters stressed the importance of dialogue with authorities to find a fair solution. The nationwide strike reflects widespread frustration and aims to protect the financial and operational interests of the sector.
