Authorities have announced plans to equip Traffic Wardens with 8,000 modern body cameras to improve transparency and accountability in traffic law enforcement. The initiative aims to ensure that every traffic challan is backed by video evidence.
A senior traffic police official said that each Traffic Warden will be provided with a body camera, and every challan issued will come with recorded proof. This system is designed to monitor both the behavior of Traffic Wardens and the conduct of citizens on the road.
The new body cameras will include night vision and audio recording features, allowing clear video documentation during both day and night. Officials believe this will help prevent misuse of authority and improve compliance with traffic rules.
Under the system, a QR code-linked video of the violation will be sent directly to the citizen’s mobile number with each challan. This is expected to increase public trust in the traffic management system and make the process more transparent.
All body cameras will be connected to district control rooms as well as a central control room for real-time monitoring and secure data storage. Officials emphasized that this setup will allow immediate supervision and ensure proper handling of traffic violations.
The DIG Traffic confirmed that 3,000 body cameras have already been procured. The remaining units will be purchased within the current financial year to complete the rollout. Authorities believe that this initiative will significantly strengthen traffic law enforcement and reduce corruption.
By using modern technology, authorities hope to create a fair and accountable system for road users. The move reflects growing efforts to improve traffic management and public confidence in the enforcement process.
