TikToker Arrested in Rawalpindi for Violating Cybercrime Law

Rawalpindi police have registered their first case under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) following their newly granted authority to combat cybercrimes. A TikToker was arrested for allegedly posting offensive content against high-ranking government and military officials on social media.

According to law enforcement, the suspect shared derogatory posts targeting the head of a military institution and the Punjab chief minister. The case has been registered under Section 505 of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 20 of the PECA Act 2016.

Authorities claim the individual had uploaded multiple videos criticizing the government, national institutions, and intelligence agencies. His online activity reportedly suggests links to a political group, and officials suspect he was deliberately disseminating anti-government content.

The police report asserts that the suspect’s actions aimed to incite hatred and public unrest, potentially eroding trust in state institutions.

The accused has been taken into custody, and further investigations are ongoing to assess the full scope of his online activities. Officials have warned that strict measures will be enforced against anyone using social media to spread misinformation or provoke disorder.
