A fierce gun battle between security forces and militants in Lakki Marwat’s Kot Kashmir area on Wednesday resulted in the elimination of three terrorists, including a prominent local commander. However, a police constable also lost his life in the line of duty.
According to Lakki Marwat police spokesperson Shahid Marwat, the operation led to the killing of three Khawarij (outlaws), among them Commander Chhota Waseem Gundi Khankhel, a high-value target.
The clash began after police received intelligence about militant movement from Gundi towards Kot Kashmir. Acting on directives from Bannu Regional Police Officer Sajjad Khan and District Police Officer Jawad Ishaq, law enforcement personnel, supported by local peace committee members, pursued the suspects.
Upon being intercepted in Kot Kashmir, the militants opened fire, triggering an intense shootout. One terrorist was killed immediately, while two others retreated into a nearby house, using women and children as human shields.
The police tactically surrounded the house, evacuating the civilians safely before engaging the remaining militants in a two-hour-long firefight that ended with both terrorists being neutralized.
During the exchange, Police Constable Shahidullah Gundi Khankhel sustained critical injuries. He was rushed to District Headquarters Hospital but succumbed to his wounds en route.
The police confirmed his martyrdom, honoring his sacrifice in the fight against terrorism.
