Lifeline consumers using up to 50 units will maintain a per-unit tariff of Rs 3.95, while those consuming between 51 to 100 units will continue to pay Rs 7.74.
The federal government had previously increased the basic electricity tariff by Rs 7.12 per unit in July 2024 but provided a three-month exemption for consumers using up to 200 units. This was facilitated by a Rs 50 billion subsidy to offset the price hike for these consumers.
