At MWC 2025, Realme made a splash not only by launching its 14 Pro series in Europe but also by unveiling a groundbreaking smartphone concept with interchangeable DSLR-style lenses. This prototype, aimed at delivering professional-grade photography on a mobile device, featured a custom 1-inch Sony sensor—an uncommon addition in smartphones—which captures more light and detail than typical sensors.

What truly sets this concept apart is its proprietary lens mount system, allowing users to swap lenses just like on a traditional DSLR or mirrorless camera. Realme demonstrated two specialized lenses at the event: a 73mm portrait lens ideal for creating stunning bokeh and detailed close-ups, and a 234mm telephoto lens designed for long-range shots with exceptional clarity. Combined with the 1-inch sensor, these lenses promise image quality that exceeds even the most advanced smartphone cameras currently on the market.
Realme’s approach offers smartphone users a new level of control and flexibility by delivering true optical zoom—eliminating the digital degradation common with built-in periscope cameras—while leveraging larger sensors and high-end optics for superior image processing.
Despite its impressive capabilities, this DSLR-style concept remains a prototype with no announced plans for mass production. Given the complexity of integrating professional-grade lenses into a smartphone, it may be years before such a device reaches consumers. However, the enthusiastic response at MWC 2025 indicates a strong interest in high-end mobile photography solutions.
