Universities from Pakistan have earned multiple nominations in the Times Higher Education Awards Asia 2026, highlighting the country’s growing presence in the regional higher education landscape. The shortlist places Pakistan alongside competitors from Thailand, India, and Hong Kong in a highly competitive field.
Thailand leads the nominations with 16 entries, followed by India with 12, and Hong Kong with nine. This eighth edition of the awards received over 500 entries across 10 categories, which judges narrowed down to 80 finalists representing 17 countries and territories.
From Pakistan, Beaconhouse National University (BNU) and Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) feature prominently across several categories. BNU has been shortlisted for Outstanding Contribution to Environmental Leadership and Research Project of the Year in Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. LUMS appears in Outstanding Support for Students and Research Project of the Year in Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences.
Chris Havergal, editor of Times Higher Education, noted that the shortlisted entries reflect the diversity and depth of higher education across Asia, emphasizing strong performance in teaching, research, innovation, and community engagement.
The winners of the Times Higher Education Awards Asia 2026 will be announced during a ceremony in Hong Kong on April 22, coinciding with the opening day of the THE Asia Universities Summit. The summit will be hosted in partnership with the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
Pakistan’s inclusion in multiple categories underscores the nation’s commitment to advancing higher education standards and gaining recognition on the international stage.
