The Punjab government has withdrawn the electricity relief previously provided to Islamabad

The relief on electricity bills previously announced by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, offering a Rs 14 per unit discount, has been revoked for residents of Islamabad, leaving them excluded from the promised reduction in their September bills.

The Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) confirmed this decision through an official letter, issued under the instructions of its CEO. While customers in other parts of Punjab, including those within the Rawalpindi Circles, will continue to benefit from the Rs 14 per unit discount, residents of Islamabad will not.

IESCO has directed updates to its billing software to reflect these changes for Islamabad consumers. Initially, the Punjab government had introduced the relief to alleviate the financial strain during the ongoing energy crisis, but the cancellation has impacted residents in Islamabad’s fifteen sub-divisions.

Authorities have been notified of this adjustment, and necessary changes are being made to ensure accurate billing for September. Though concerns have been raised by consumers in Islamabad, IESCO reassured that the relief package remains in effect for Rawalpindi and other cities across Punjab.
