The PTA has submitted proposals to address anti-Pakistan social media campaigns

In response to growing social media campaigns against Pakistan’s national security, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has submitted recommendations to the government to address these issues.

The PTA has identified several key challenges:

  1. Lack of International Agreements: There are no global standards for internet governance, leading to unchecked anti-Pakistan propaganda on social media.
  2. Spread of Illegal Content: The proliferation of hate speech and misinformation poses a significant threat to national security.
  3. Anonymous Users: Users hiding behind anonymity spread harmful content without facing consequences.
  4. Unlicensed OTT Services: Content providers operating without adhering to local regulations contribute to the problem.

To address these issues, the PTA has recommended:

  • Developing a National Consensus: Establishing a unified strategy for social media management and governance.
  • Enhancing Court Capacity: Improving the efficiency of courts to deliver swift judgments in cybercrime cases.
  • Raising Public Awareness: Educating citizens about responsible internet usage and encouraging them to report suspicious online activities.
