The PML-Q leader does not anticipate elections anytime soon

In Gujrat and other areas of Punjab, senior PML-Q leader and former federal minister Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain believes it is too early to discuss the seat adjustment between the PML-Q and the PML-N since he does not anticipate an upcoming election. Before the general election, he claims that many issues in national politics need to be resolved, especially how to fix the country’s struggling economy.

He claims that the PML-Q is more focused on expanding its reach in Punjab and other regions of Pakistan because several current and former MPs who have either left the PTI or may do so in the near future have gotten in touch with the party’s leadership about joining it. Abdullah Yousaf and Khalid Asghar Ghural, two former PML-Q MPAs from Gujrat, also joined the party last month.

On Sunday, Wajahat threw a reception at his Nutt House home in celebration of the former union council delegates, party leaders, and supporters from NA-68 Jalalpur Jattan-Tanda, where he was speaking to Dawn.

Wajahat’s son Chaudhry Musa Elahi and former AJ&K minister and member of the Azad Kashmir legislative assembly Chaudhry Akbar Ibrahim were also there.

After severing ties with the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), Wajahat and Musa returned to their hometown for the first time on Sunday. His elder son, MNA Hussain Elahi, recently announced that he would follow his father and join the PML-Q. However, the MNA has been away from home for the past few months.

Wajahat informed the reporter that the PML-Q had excellent candidates to run for all of the national and provincial assembly seats in Gujrat, and that the decision of Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain would be respected because he had spoken with the relevant parties regarding seat adjustments for any other party in the upcoming elections.

According to him, the party president of the PML-Q believed in reaching an understanding with the coalition partners in order to run the administrative and political affairs of the Gujrat district because the PML-Q had been a coalition partner with the PML-N-led federal government.

It is important to note that PML-N MNA Abid Raza Kotla had expressed concerns at his party forums about the dominance of Shujaat Hussain’s scions in the Gujrat district, and that Wajahat Hussain, who is regarded as a key figure in managing the Chaudhrys’ family politics, may now take centre stage in the district.

As a result of its continued membership in the PPP, PTI, and PML-N-led administrations in the centre, the Shujaat-led PML-Q believes it still has a chance to join any future coalition governments.

In response to a different query, Wajahat Hussain stated that he and other party and family elders wished to regain Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and Moonis Elahi’s support for the PML-Q because they believed that family and party unity would lead to better outcomes in future politics.

He acknowledged that the PML-Q faction’s merger with the PTI was a mistake because maintaining the Muslim League’s name preserved their identity, which shouldn’t have been lost. He emphasised, however, that he had never joined the PTI.

When asked if he would run for office in NA 71 (Sara-i-Alamgir-Kotla) in the upcoming election, Musa Elahi responded that many decisions would depend on the political situation, but he and his son had been in touch with the supporters in that district.

In response to a query, he stated that he and Musa had been detained in fictitious and made-up cases.
