The Ministry of IT and Telecommunication has set September 30 as the deadline for completing the grey structure of the Islamabad IT Park. Construction is progressing rapidly, with seven stories already built and two more expected to be finished in the next two months. Once the grey structure is completed, internal work will begin. The overall project is scheduled for completion by June 2025, although Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed the team to expedite the process and finish it within the current year.
The IT Park will feature eleven stories, including two underground levels, and span an area of 66,893 square meters. It will provide office space for over 120 startups and SMEs, as well as facilities like testing laboratories, classrooms, an industry-academia linkage center, and an auditorium.
Funded with $88.8 million from Exim Bank Korea and the Pakistani government, the park aims to address IT infrastructure shortages, support technology commercialization, and boost R&D. It is expected to attract federal investment, increase IT exports, and create approximately 10,000 jobs, with a potential annual export boost of $70 million. The project, which began with a groundbreaking ceremony on May 26, 2021, is a significant step towards enhancing Pakistan’s IT sector capabilities.
