Tesla to Remove Steering Wheel Alerts with Self-Driving Update

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]Tesla is planning a major update for its Full Self-Driving (FSD) system, set to release next week. CEO Elon Musk hinted at its impressiveness without sharing many details. A significant change involves removing the steering wheel reminder, which prompts drivers to touch the wheel. Instead, Tesla will employ an interior camera to monitor driver attentiveness.

Currently, Tesla’s system reminds drivers every minute to ensure their focus, which some users find bothersome due to the frequent alerts. The new camera system already warns drivers if they look away from the road for over three seconds, which has also been a source of frustration for some.

Critics are concerned that the camera system may not be entirely reliable, potentially leading to misuse of the FSD system. However, Tesla emphasizes that drivers must remain prepared to take control of the vehicle at any moment.

This update comes at a critical time for Tesla, as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is investigating a recall related to alerts for Autopilot and Full Self-Driving. Tesla maintains that drivers need to stay attentive and keep their hands on the wheel while using these features.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
