In a major development in the high-profile Ameer Balaj Tipu murder case, the main accused, Khawaja Tareef Gulshan, alias Teefi Butt, has been arrested in Dubai. Authorities confirmed the arrest was carried out with the assistance of Interpol. Teefi Butt is expected to be extradited to Pakistan soon.
Teefi Butt had been on the run after being named the prime suspect in the murder case. A special team from Punjab Police, working closely with Interpol, successfully located him in Dubai. Officials confirmed that legal procedures for his transfer to Pakistan are already underway.
The case also involves Khawaja Aqeel, alias Gogi Butt, who had secured interim bail in August. The Lahore district court had ordered him to cooperate fully with police investigations. On February 19, 2024, Ameer Balaj Tipu, son of Arif Ameer, also known as Tipu Truckanwala, was shot during a wedding ceremony in Lahore’s Chuhng area. Tipu sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died from excessive bleeding, while three others were injured. The assailant was killed in retaliatory fire.
Police reports revealed that on the night of the murder, Teefi Butt fled abroad from Karachi, while Gogi Butt remained in Lahore. Both were declared proclaimed offenders on March 30 last year, after evading arrest. Dubai Police had pledged full cooperation to apprehend Teefi Butt, which has now been successfully executed.
The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing the case confirmed that Gogi Butt was in contact with Teefi Butt and played a key role in planning the assassination. Officials also noted that Gogi Butt is a named accused in multiple previous murders involving the Tipu family. The JIT plans to approach the court to seek cancellation of Gogi Butt’s bail.
This arrest marks a significant step forward in the ongoing investigation of the high-profile murder case and is expected to expedite justice for the victims.
