Indonesia’s fast bowler Gede Priandana has created a new milestone in T20 history. He became the first player in international T20 cricket to take five wickets in a single over. The record-breaking performance came in the first T20I against Cambodia in Bali.
Chasing 168, Cambodia was 106 for five after 15 overs when Priandana was brought into the attack. He struck immediately, dismissing Shah Abrar Hussain, Nirmaljit Singh, and Chanthoeun Rathanak in his first three balls, completing a rapid hat-trick.
After a dot ball, Priandana removed Mongdara Sok and Pel Vennak with his fifth and sixth legal deliveries. The over ended with five wickets, and Cambodia scored only a single run from a wide. Their innings concluded 60 runs short of Indonesia’s total.
Earlier, Priandana contributed with the bat, scoring six runs off 11 balls. Wicketkeeper-batter Dharma Kesuma shone with an unbeaten 110 off 68 deliveries, hitting eight fours and six sixes to help Indonesia reach 167.
Priandana’s feat is unprecedented in international T20 cricket with full ball-by-ball data available. Before this, five wickets in an over had only been achieved at the domestic level by Bangladesh’s Al-Amin Hossain in 2013–14 and Karnataka’s Abhimanyu Mithun in 2019–20.
The previous ceiling in T20 history was four wickets in an over, achieved 14 times, including Lasith Malinga’s famous four-in-four against New Zealand in 2019. With this extraordinary performance, Gede Priandana has set a new benchmark for bowlers in the international T20 arena.
