The Supreme Court of Pakistan has imposed a Rs. 100,000 fine on a man for not fulfilling his ‘Haq Mehr’ obligation to his wife six years into their marriage. Chief Justice Qazi Faez urged the applicant to adhere to Islamic principles, emphasizing that Haq Mehr is the right of a wife, regardless of recognition of Pakistan’s laws.
The applicant’s lawyer revealed the client had two wives, leading Chief Justice to express dissatisfaction, stating the client owed Rs. 0.5 million in Haq Mehr after six years.
